Case Study

Lloyds Pharmacy St Ives

The store at St. Ives in Cambridgeshire required a complete refurbishment with bespoke joinery and furniture to fit in with their corporate branding and high profile presence on the High Street.

The Client

Lloyds Pharmacy is the second-largest UK pharmacy with over 1,500 pharmacies across the country, mainly in community and health centre locations. They employ around 17,000 staff and dispense over 150 million prescription items every year.

Through their pharmacies and website, Lloyds Pharmacy offers a wide range of healthcare products and services. They have also launched a range of innovative products aimed at improving community health. These include blood pressure monitors and allergy relievers, and a variety of professional health check services including free blood pressure and diabetes testing, as well as cholesterol and heart checks. These checks are carried out in the comfort of a private consultation room.

The Project

Approved Shopfitting is proud to be one of the main contractors for Lloyds Pharmacy and we have been actively involved in the fit-out of a number of their pharmacies. The store at St. Ives in Cambridgeshire required a complete refurbishment with bespoke joinery and furniture to fit in with their corporate branding and high profile presence on the High Street.

The vision of the project was to give the pharmacy a modern make-over, providing their customers with a bright and airy, relaxed environment to ask for help and advice. It was also important for Lloyds Pharmacy to enhance their retail offering and this was a critical feature of the project.

The Challenge

The challenge in a project like this is to keep the important service that the pharmacy offers still operating whilst the work is carried out. This required a lot of early mornings and late nights to get the work done as well as having a strong focus on the health and safety of the staff and general public.

Time is of the essence when working on this type of project because the general public clearly need to have access to prescriptions and the wide array of other services that the pharmacy offers. Closing the pharmacy to carry out the refurbishment was not an option so work had to be carried whilst the pharmacy remained operational.

The Solution

We started the project on the 16th August 2015 and completed it on the 5th September 2015 so the turnaround was very tight. Each stage of the project had to be planned with precision ensuring that key tasks were completed outside of normal working hours and that there were suitable measures in place to keep everybody safe. In order to achieve this, we installed dust proof hoardings to segregate working areas from trading areas. This allowed business as usual activity to be carried out with the minimum of disruption.

The Benefit

The Lloyds Pharmacy store in St. Ives has now been transformed and is able to deliver the forward-thinking and flexible healthcare that forms an integral part of their objectives. The store has a fresh look which is more appealing to their customers and has enabled them to increase their range of products and services and ultimately increase sales.

The refurbishment gives an enhanced shopping experience for their customers and the new layout provides improved facilities for prescription dispensing and allows greater visibility and service interaction with the pharmacist. The St Ives store is the latest of more than 250 Lloyds pharmacies across the UK to have the transformation, and we look forward to the next project with eager anticipation.
